Digital Delirium?

Are we bombarded with little square images? Yes, we are! For whatever reason, I love 'em. Can't get enough of them. I grew up with analog images. We see in real life, real images. So why the fascination with digital? I don't really know. Maybe you can tell me.
I do know this it really effects my art. I consciously paint in a pixilated form (style) sometimes. Other times I don't but I still have to take pictures of my art digitally. Before I had a digital camera, I had a film camera. I take 100x more photos now. Practice really does help you to improve. I know I'll never be perfect.
So I guess it's easier, faster, and can be super clear, but on some level they are still little squares. Can someone PLEASE tell me why I (we) love them so much!
I think it might have something to do with PacMan, also.
