For those of you who ask me a lot because you don't bother to look up for yourself, here is a list of legitimate agencies. If you are asked to pay any upfront fees look them up here, http://www.sagaftra.org/los-angeles-local/aftra-franchised-agents Ask me or Run! It is common that agents will ask you to pay for a test shoot with their photographers to build your book. But there are a lot of cheesy agencies out there that are not legit and all your going to do is wind up with is a bunch of silly photos that you can never use with a bunch of False promises of work you will never see. I see this all the time and once you heard everything you want to hear I can't tell you different because now you have stars in your eyes. A real agent is immune to beautiful people and they will not act like you are the best thing since sliced bread, they will be very real and upfront with you. On a side note I use to teach runway at John Robert Powers when I 1st moved back from Milan because my agent asked me too as a favor reluctantly I did. I couldn't believe what they use to tell their clients and the promises they would make and the money they would charge. Needless to say I got fired after a few lessons because I told the clients truth about the industry. Op's! I'm Glad it made me sick to witness all that. Also watch out photographers that think or say they can do model portfolios or actor headshots but have absolutely no experience or background in the fashion or entertainment industry. They will blow a bunch of smoke at you about their expertise in photography but in realty just because they know technical terms or how to use a camera by no means makes them a fashion photographer. Do Your Homework. And please stay away from cheesy poses and 80's studio lighting! I see so much bad fashion/portrait photography I finally had to speak the truth. I am not saying I am the best or the one you should work with but I do know what the Hell I'm talking about! ;-)
