So today is the 4th of July, The day The US declared independence from the British. They recently found on of only 25 copies of the document in British archive. I guess it’s appropriate that there are now 3 copies there, I think they got the message and we are all friends now. My Dad came here in the last 50’s and was always proud of this country and the opportunities it offered him. He always kept the American flag he was given when he became a citizen.
We are going to Annapolis today to see the Fireworks and hang out with Gina’s family who is in town for the weekend. There is so much American history there and of course Naval history that it seems appropriate. There is a tavern on the corner by the water called The Middletown Tavern where George Washington used to hang out when he was in town. That’s kind of cool.
In the news today, VP Joe Biden celebrated the Fourth of July with a visit to Iraq. He presided at a naturalization ceremony at one of Saddam Hussein's former palaces, where 237 U.S. service members were sworn in as American citizens; North Korea fired several short-range missiles toward the Sea of Japan; the crown of the Statue of Liberty will re-open to tourists today for the first time since September 11, 2001.
Happy Fourth of July! Have fun!
185 down 180 to go.
