Well, the portrait series of women will start with my mother. She's 89 this year; just celebrated her birthday. I will be working from a photo of her when she was around 75, as she wished. I've developed a good pencil drawing for her face and neck, but I think I'd like to use something a little looser and less academic. I will be tracing the general outline with tracing paper over the pencil drawing and then using a technical pen, produce a noodling, meandering line to fill in shadows and lines. I have a nice portrait I did last year with just such a line and thought it one of the most successful portraits I've ever done. It would be nice to follow through with this idea throughout the series.
