Organization a Tool for the Untidy Mind

Wendy Wasserstein once said: "Sometimes I want to clean up my desk and go out and say, respect me, I'm a respectable grown-up, and other times I just want to jump into a paper bag and shake and bake myself to death”

I can appreciate her sentiments! Over the next two weeks, I'm going to be raking the vines in the garden and turning them to mulch to help the next year's garden. ALSO during the next couple of weeks, I'm going to be raking through my artwork and (at least temporarily) "mulching" some of my work into an "Inactive" pile where they can sit quietly brooding and potentially inspiring new works over the long, cold Winter. Why I'm wanting to do this is a question I've been asking myself over the past several weeks.

In actuality, I do not WANT to do it (sanity confirmed), but there's an awful lot of my work up and out there to try to promote and keep track of while still trying to have time to paint; frankly, I'm an artist, not a business-person. I seriously despise the "practical" side of this, but it must be dealt with like a rational and mature adult if I'm going to have a serious go at it. I know this because whining and pleading and stomping off to pout haven't gotten me a business manager or extra hours in the standard day.

I'm also annoyed at having to determine which paintings are to be removed from sale so others can be promoted. Yes, yes, its only $30 for an entire year of not having to fuss with that, but that doesn't alleviate the hours in the day to promote, and it doesn't help me to unclutter. Sadly, neither does it help to be a member of 116 groups here on FAA. Granted, they are all very fine groups, and all have great benefit and much to teach me, but that's a lot more than any one person can reasonably hope to actively participate in as integrity to the other members dictates, at least as imy conscience dictates to me.

So ... simplifying. Starting tonight.
