I am very honored to announce that Think Middletown, a e-zine dedicated to providing fine quality articles on various topics as it relates to my hometown, has asked me to write a series of articles on "demystifying art". Here in Middletown a number of hard working artists and community members have been revitalizing the downtown through the arts. In a conversation with two of these community members, I stated that we can bring all the artists we want here but without collectors or art lovers to purchase, they may not stay here. So we started to examine how we can increase the art lovers in this town and demystifying art so that all can enjoy it.
So, this is the first in a series of articles that I hope will build the confidence and interest level of those who would like to know more about art, artists, art collectors, art lovers, potential art lovers/collectors and really anyone who may have an interest in learning about art without having to go to obtain an art or art history degree. We'll be talking about a series of topics--how to read a piece of artwork, what are various components of a great piece of art, and break down those components in easy to understand concepts for the non-artist to understand and look for in a piece of artwork.
