Afternoon Trip to Bergamot Station

Posted by Rosemary O'Brien on April 22nd, 2014

Recently, Fine Art America took a day trip to Bergamot Station Art Center to see some local Los Angeles art exhibits. This widely known Santa Monica art center dates back to 1875, when it used to be a stop on the railroad line running from the Los Angeles to the Santa Monica pier. The station was originally named after a local plant, Bergamot that once flourished in the area. However during the 1980ís the lot became vacant and unused. The city decided to ask developer Wayne Blank to transform Bergamot into a hub for the arts. Bergamot Station officially opened in September 17, 1994. Today the center is thriving and widely known to the public as a destination in Santa Monica. In the next few years the station will again become a metro line stop for visitors and locals.

Every month each gallery hosts a different art show highlighting a variety of art, including photography, paintings, sculptures, and mixed media. It is also a great place to walk around, explore, and find something new and unique. And if you are hungry, you donít have to go very far, just walk to the Bergamot cafe in the very center of all the galleries. They have a great selection of sandwiches and fresh mint lemonade!

Some of our favorite exhibits on view this month includes, Spotlight on Photography at the Santa Monica Auctions, a show and auction of contemporary and iconic photography. Piedras del Mar, Wood Davy at Craig Krull Gallery , the show has a variety of stone sculptures in natural, alternative spaces assembled in precocious ways. And Koji Takei: Resonance at William Turner Gallery, a collection of abstract and modified instruments.

So if you're local or visiting Santa Monica, we suggest stopping by the station to see what is on view!
