This is the fourth annual ArtPrize which is the world's largest art prize. Artists from all over the world show their work at many different venues, most located within a three mile radius of downtown Grand Rapids, Michigan. Come and join the art frenzy beginning 9/19 and ending on 10/7.
This is the third time I will be showing my work at ArtPrize, this time at City Art Gallery located at 1168 Ionia St. NW. Come and see my photo montage, entitled "Coming Home."
Here is a description of my work:
On 9/11/11, my husband’s cousin took us for a walking tour of Asbury Grove,* a lovely shaded community north of Boston, Massachusetts which began in 1859 as a Methodist Camp Meeting ground. I was captivated by the colorful cottages, each unique in construction and painting, and given names such as “Precious.” “Heaven’s Scent,” “The Blessing,” “Martin’s Manna,” “Angel’s Rest” and “Hate to Leave it.” Those names give me a sense of what this place means to the residents. That is why I call this work “Coming Home.” To create this piece, I chose photos of sixteen cottages to represent Asbury Grove and had them specially printed with a coating that is water and UV ray resistant. I arranged and mounted them on one of my 38 by 48 inch handmade, lightweight fabric-covered frames.
*Asbury Grove is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is the only camp meeting ground in the United States that has offered a program every summer since 1859.
