Davey Jones tells an entire story in a single image. Drawing from a diverse palette of tools, both digital and traditional, Jones has developed his own hybrid approach that appears both cutting edge and modern, yet deeply familiar and firmly rooted in classical traditions, resulting in a culmination of traditional filmmaking and painting techniques applied to fine art photography.

"Behind every one of my concepts there is a story and beneath each story exists an underlying mythology. It is my task to find that single defining moment from the story and present it to the viewer as an isolated framework from which they may deconstruct using their imagination. In many respects, that is the power that the single frame has over motion pictures. The viewer is left to create for themselves that which surrounds the image. In the end, I believe this to be more satisfying than having every detail handed to you" states Jones.

An unlikely artist with no formal training and diverse influences ranging from filmmakers Ridley Scott, Stanley Kubrick and Terry Gilliam to artists such as Gustave' Dore and Robert Park-Harrison, Jones channels his interests in science, mythology, painting, religion and literature into his works. "Because of the nature of the imagery I create, people tend to not believe me when I say that I've spent more time obsessing over Raphael's "La Belle Jardinière" than the entire landscape of contemporary painters and photographers combined" states Jones.

The transition from concept to reality can take up to six months, with Jones overseeing the construction of props, costumes, sets and other key elements. The day of the shoot is familiar to anyone who has even been on a movie set, as Jones divides his time between rehearsing the shot with the actors and coordinating final setup with the lighting, makeup and wardrobe departments before capturing the final scene on film. Once the negatives are processed and scanned, Jones experience in visual f/x comes into play, spending weeks, sometimes even months in "post-production" where all of the photographic elements are meticulously assembled to produce the final piece.

Jones currently resides in Sierra Madre, CA, runs his own visual effects company and spends the rest of his time creating fine art. “Nuclear Religions” is his first gallery exhibition.
