TRAVELING WITH WATERCOLORS
THREE DAY WORKSHOP BY BERYL KERWICK. APRIL 4-6, 2013 10-4
PRACTICE BEFORE YOU LEAVE HOME!
If you have tried travellling with paints you already
know it can be frustrating for many reasons and so
after a couple of attempts to paint you give up feeling slightly resentful that you brought your stuff all this way and then didn’t use it!
Beryl has specifically designed this workshop for those who plan to travel and want to include painting as a part of their activities. She has taken her
watercolors on numerous trips both nationally and internationally and has recorded her travels in quick spontaneous sketches.
“As a painter, you will often feel an overwhelming desire to paint some of the scenes, views, people or landscapes of the places you visit. You may have tried this and if you are like me, found it less than satisfactory because of time constraints, unwieldy, heavy gear and frequently, impatient travel companions, to say nothing of the fear of painting when ‘people are looking at you’.
I suggest 2 or 3 types of sketching and watercolor kits you
can put together to carry easily and lightly when you travel. You can pull them out quickly and set up when you see something you just have to paint. In addition I have figured out a way to paint quickly and enjoyably with satisfactory results and I would like to teach this to you.
Of the various media I have travelled with, watercolor is my favorite. If you are not familiar with watercolors you will learn to love them.”
Beryl is an award winning watercolorist, plein air painter and longtime teacher.
This three day workshop will include:
Day 1. Begin in Studio. Demo of painting methods by Beryl.
Practice setting up watercolor gear.
Practice sketching and painting typical objects Outdoor painting if time allows.
Day 2. Painting outside at location in Austin area. Day 3. BE A TOURIST! - painting in downtown Austin
MARCH 9. THERE WILL BE AN OPTIONAL SHORT MEETING FOR THOSE WHO WANT TO DISCUSS TRAVEL GEAR BEFORE BUYING THEIR OWN.
