HOT WAX ENCAUSTIC PAINTING 3-DAY INTENSIVE WORKSHOP
The ancient art of hot Encaustic Wax painting has experienced a revival as a contemporary art medium over the past two decades. Mysterious, deep and translucent, with a glow that emanates from within, Encaustic wax paintings use layers of filtered, pigmented, and hardened beeswax that are melted, applied, fused, marked, etched, and embedded both alone and combined with mixed-media elements. The result are works with luminosity, warmth, depth and tell stories unachievable with any other painting medium.
Join artist Tristina Dietz-Elmes at the Broward Art Guild Gallery for a hands-on workshop introducing this "hot" painting medium. In her workshop you will learn:
- what supplies and tools are needed to work with beeswax and encaustic paints at all levels
- how to safely work with pure beeswax, encaustic wax, and pigments
- what surfaces are best used when creating wax paintings
- how to layer wax only paintings and manipulate the wax surface
- how to combine beeswax and encaustic painting with other mixed-media
- techniques for coming off the surface and creating texture in wax paintings
- how to finish off and care for encaustic wax artworks
