Description
We wandered for hours along the wildly beautiful south coast of this resplendent island. Aside from the occasional fisherman, there was no one...just the palm trees and a wild Indian Ocean that seemed eternal.
In antiquity, Sri Lanka was known to travellers by a variety of names. Known in India as Lanka or Sinhala, ancient Greek geographers called it Taprobane. Arabs traders referred to it as Serendib, which became our present day word serendipity, meaning a "happy accident" or "pleasant surprise"; specifically, the accident of finding something good or useful while not specifically searching for it.
The entire island is magical: lush jungle, dramatic mountains, ancient ruins, and the sea...always the sea. It has a way of taking you outside of yourself, immersing you in forces beyond full understanding, and allowing discovery of Self. Paint version.
