Description
I have been impressed by heavy horses since I was a small boy. I still take the opportunity to go and observe them when ploughing competitions are held in the countryside not far from my home. Although these gentle giants have largely been replaced by tractors on modern farms, they are still favoured for specialist tasks such as in logging/forestry work in difficult terrain. The painting shows an imaginary scene in a forest. Essentially, it has been compiled from memories of visits to forests and the countryside and the occasions when I have been able to observe heavy horses at work.
On the extreme top right of the picture is the watermil/sawmill. The forest path leads the observwer down to the old stone bridge and then up to the upper left of the painting to the cottage and barn The light from the cottage gives a warm welcome to the forestry worker as he strolls home with his beloved shire horse at the end of the day.

Anthony, your gallery is a delight to visit. This painting is extraordinarily! I just love the depth you're able to convey...all the way through that gully and forest to that tiny pinpoint of sun setting on the distant horizon! You have amazing talent!
Anthony Lyon replied:
Carmen, many thanks for viewing my gallery and I'm so pleased you like the painting. Your kind comments are much appreciated.

Anthony my fried used to train the big horses for pulling and he would sell them to the Amish to work in the fields . He did that for over 50 years great business. Very nice painting of the big horse.
Anthony Lyon replied:
Many thanks to you Jeffrey for your very kind comments and the background story about your friend who obviously loved these gentle giants.

And a horse is the star in Pixar films like Tangled and Frozen. If you have not seen Tangled, you have missed out. It has the funniest musical scene ever and then ends with what could be the most romantic scene ever in the final moments. Your painting could easily be a scene in Frozen. Well done! FAV,
Anthony Lyon replied:
Many thanks for your fun comments Reynold. I must admit I don't recall seeing these films so I will make a point of watching out for them. Pleased you like the painting.

I like this, Anthony! Your art is "like a treasure chest full of jewels" as well! ( Your words for the Thingamajig) Every work of art is truly you. I could spot your art a mile off. There are so many nice touches in this one--the stone arched bridge--the wintery landscape-- and the gentleman with his horse. I spend a lot of time watching B westerns and I think a lot of it is the horses. When others are watching the actors, I am looking at the antics of the horses. Well done and beautiful in every way! FAV
Anthony Lyon replied:
Many, many thanks for your kind remarks Reynold - really appreciated I can tell you. I take your point about horses in the "westerns". The rider, his horse and the rugged terrain all set those memorable scenes in much loved movies..
