Boxwood anthropometric rule. Anthropometry was a system developed in the late nineteenth century by the French biometrics pioneer, Alphonse Bertillon (1853-1914). A set of standard body measurements such as ear length and width of head would be taken for use in the identification of criminals by police. This example of an anthropometric rule is English and dates from around 1870.
