Description
The Boeing F-15E Strike Eagle is an all-weather multirole fighter, derived from the McDonnell Douglas F-15 Eagle. The F-15E was designed in the 1980s for long-range, high speed interdiction without relying on escort or electronic warfare aircraft. The F-15E's first flight was on 11 December 1986. The first production model of the F-15E was delivered to the USAF in April 1988. Production continued through the 1990s until 2001 with 236 total produced for the Air Force. The Strike Eagle is a more recent variant of the F-15, and has a sturdier airframe rated for twice the lifetime of earlier variants. The F-15Es are expected to remain in service past 2025. The 442d TES is composed of aircrew and support personnel supporting six divisions of fighter and helicopter aircraft: A-10, F-15E, F-16C, F-22A, and HH-60G. The 422d TES conducts operational tests for Air Combat Command (ACC) on new hardware and upgrades to each of the six aircraft in a simulated combat environment. The 422d TES also developes and publishes new tactics for these aircraft. The results of these tests directly benefit aircrews in ACC, Pacific Air Forces and United States Air Forces in Europe by providing them with operationally proven hardware and software systems. Current tests include night covert operation by the A-10, developing UAV (Predator) employment tactics for integration with the operational mission of the F-16C, helmet mounted sight capability of the F-15C, new avionics software updates for the F-15E and improved combat search and rescue tactics for HH-60G.
