Description
The Dover Sole, Microstomus pacificus, supports an important fishery in the Pacific, particularly the Pacific Northwest of the United States and Canada. The larvae are pelagic and much different looking from the adults; they are translucent in early larval stages. As the fish develops, one of its eyes migrates to the dorsal side of the head. The eye of this larvae is still in the process of migration. This specimen was trawled from between the surface and 1000 feet depth off of Monterey, California, in November 2009.
