Malachite mineral. This copper carbonate mineral occurs in copper-bearing formations, but is not a copper ore. It is used as an ornamental mineral due to its vivid green colour. This example of the rare crystallised radial fibrous habitat is 12 centimetres across, and was obtained from the Lukuni mine in Katanga Province, Democratic Republic of the Congo. Photographed at the Royal Museum for Central Africa, Tervuren, Belgium.
