Description
In 2008, our town celebrated its 100th birthday. It was during this time that I painted several works to commemorate this occasion. Our valley is largely a farming community. Like many others in the day, my great-grandfather immigrated to Canada from Europe to start a new life. Most of his children moved to Toronto to work in the trade industry, but my grandfather, an artist and photographer, stayed on the homestead along with my grandmother and my dad to barely eek out a living off the land.
The grain elevators, once so prevalent along the prairies are slowly disappearing today and with them the farming way of life so many of us experienced growing up.
I was 10 when my father, an art and English instructor by profession, got back into farming for a short period of time. My most cherished memories from that time consist of breathtaking moonlit nights and crawling around in monstrous flax piles with my sister, bright rows of fire dotting the landscape and running through wind-tossed wheat fields, wind in my hair, warm fall sun on my face.

I add my praise to the rest. Prairie Fire is filled with movement and intrigue. You might check out an artist by the name of Scott Kirby. He too is fascinated with the prairie. Thanks, Dan

Thank you to everyone for sharing your thoughts and providing feedback on my artwork. Today I uploaded a higher quality image of Prairie Fire to my data base and I had to create a new page as the old file would not update properly. As a result I lost some wonderful comments received throughout this past week on this piece. But thank you all again for sharing. :)
