Description
Shadow bands in sky. Color due to interception of sunlight by distant clouds or mountain peaks. View to SW from Asheville, North Carolina December 1974. Shadow bands are slow-moving waves of light and dark observed to move across light-colored surfaces on the earth just before and after totality in a solar eclipse. They are thought to originate from the effects of irregular atmospheric refraction.
