Description
A zinc metal strip was immersed into a beaker containing a 0.2M copper (II) sulfate solution. Since zinc is more reactive than copper, a single-displacement reaction occurred Zn + CuSO4 -> Cu + ZnSO4. This sequence shows (left to right) the zinc strip seconds after it was put into the beaker; after 16 min; after 46 min; after 1.5 hours; after 10.5 hours. Note hydrogen gas bubbles that were produced in a secondary reaction.
