A beautiful 1855 first edition example of Colton's map of Turkey in Europe. Covers from Moldova to Greece and from the Adriatic to the Black Sea. Color coded according to regions, which include the modern day nations of Greece, Turkey, Macedonia, Albania, Bosnia, Serbia, Croatia, Bulgaria, Montenegro, and Moldova. An in set in the lower left quadrant details the Bosporus and Istanbul (Constantinople). Another inset, in the lower right, details the island of Candia or Crete. Throughout, Colton identifies various cities, towns, rivers and assortment of additional topographical details. Surrounded by Colton's typical spiral motif border. Dated and copyrighted to J. H. Colton, 1855. Published from Colton's 172 William Street Office in New York City. Issued as page no. 22 in volume 2 of the first edition of George Washington Colton's 1855 Atlas of the World .
