Description

The CV-22 Osprey is one of the newest aircraft in the Air Force Special Operation Command's (AFSOC) inventory and represents a revolutionary method of employing airpower. The CV-22 is a heavily modified Bell-Boeing tiltrotor aircraft, designed to meet the demands of the AFSOC mission. It combines the Vertical TakeOff and Landing (VTOL) capabilities of a helicopter with the speed, range, and service ceiling of a turboprop airplane. The primary mission of the 8SOS is to conduct clandestine infiltration, exfiltration, and resupply of special operations forces over a wide range of environmental conditions. The aircraft can perform a variety of other missions including shipboard operations, non-combatant evacuation operations, and personnel recovery, operating in the deep battle space in a medium to high threat environment. The 8SOS is proud of its over 90 year heritage and is poised for action in the 21st century and will continue to demonstrate that the squadron has, the guts to try- Any Time, Any Place.
