Painting - Acrylic On Canvas
The keel of the USS Antietam was laid at the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard in 1943. She was a
straight deck carrier and had a varied history including combat in the Korean War. In 1952 she entered the New York Naval shipyard and departed as the first canted deck carrier in the world.
This is why the title of this painting is "First Cant". She was then assigned Anti Submarine Warfare,
CVS-36. The artist was a pilot of the first S2F squadron to fly from her deck.
