Great White Shark
Photograph - Photograph
Great white shark (Carcharodon carcharias) underwater. This is the largest of the predatory sharks, reaching a length of over six metres. It mainly eats seals, turtles and fish. It occasionally attacks humans, though probably by mistake. It lives throughout the warm seas of the world and can reach speeds of 40 kilometres per hour. Like other sharks, it is able to detect tiny traces of blood in the water and follow them to their source. Photographed off South Africa.
