Attractive work! You portrayed her very mild-mannered. For many nights the waters of the Nile ran red with the blood of mortals, and Hathor waded through blood until her feet became crimson. ... Gods and myths of Ancient Egypt By Robert A. Armour

This painting depicts early Hathor prior to 2700 BCE, when she was the beloved of all, a fertile and nurturing Mother of the Nile. Like most creator gods or goddesses she manifests the destroyer aspect as well as nurturing. After 2700 BCE Hathor was less nurturing fertility and love goddess, more bloodthirsty and capricious warrior. I read that this change was due to war and political situations at the time that resulted in the founding of the Middle Kingdom. People invented a mythology to explain what was happening and the upheavl and war around them. Also, just like today, the new administration of Upper Egypt's pharaoh Mentuhotep II set about villifying the previous administration's cults along with everything else, accenting the darker aspects and negating the positive. Its seems that every god or goddess I've studied manifests the same fluctuating mix of darkenss and light we see around us in the universe, but I choose to focus on the Light.

So true, particularly today. I just recently had a rather heated discussion with a network creator about such in Hinduism. I blogged about it afterwards [link] - had also to do with censorship

Thanks Otto, Ill check it out tonight. I dont know why some people get defensive about this. Human nature hasnt changed much over the centuries, no matter what time, country or race we are the same in many ways. Opportunists and power hungry individuals have used politics and religion to influence or control populations forever. Spirituality in any faith is different and above this sort of manipulation because it requires an intellectual process and empathy, but most people arent spiritual.

Het Hert is a lovely goddess. Known as the house of Horus, a western direction Goddess Greeting and offering the dead a drink from within the ficus sycamore tree. Goddess of both known in both life and death a Goddess of the arts, birthing, marriage and motherhood, the Greeks associated her with their powerful Goddess Aphrodite. She is s complex and multi dimensional and in her Sekhmet form because Re had need of her in this form she is a trans formative Goddess and therefore she is also a Goddess of the Drink (Beer). It is thought by some number of people that she is a Goddess presiding of Sex Drugs and Rock -n- Roll these days. Hah hah hah hah hah, that one amuses me greatly! I can see it. Also, gotta love the Hathor or Het Hert hair do! We have seen that come and go through out the ages. It is thought that she was also the Goddess known as Tefnut. I love your painting of her!

Description:

IF YOU'D LIKE THIS PRINT SIGNED, PLEASE CONTACT ME FOR OPTIONS. A visual prayer for joie de vivre and abundance. This image depicts the Egyptian goddess Hathor, transformed by her father (Ra) into an Eye and sent forth to spy upon humanity. The ankh, among other things, represents Hathor the All - Seeing Eye, thus everything she gazes upon turns to abundance and multiplies. Hung indoors, ankhs create good fortune and prevent its leaking away from the dwelling. The temple pillars display cow - eared Hathor, sistrums, and hieroglyphics offering praise, prayers, and invoking favor upon all who gaze into her portrait and read the text. Priestesses sing and play her sacred instrument, the sistrum. Like most mother goddesses Hathor has a shadow side, the Destroyer, but was a beloved goddess commonly associated with the Nile, joy, love, fertility, midwifery, motherhood, dancing, music, poetry. Cows, turquoise and malachite were sacred to her and the falcon, sycamore trees, color red, cobra, sun disc, cow horns and color red are also connected to her.
