Description
Electron micrograph of the Norwalk virus, an RNA virus of the genus Norovirus (caliciviridae), with 27-32nm-sized viral particles. Norwalk viruses (and related caliciviruses) are important causes of nonbacterial gastroenteritis in the United States; symptoms of infection include vomiting and diarrhea. The virus was named for an outbreak in Norwalk, Ohio after which the virus was isolated. It displays characteristic radial projections, often lop-eared.
