Description
Buttock muscles. Computer artwork of a posterior oblique view of the hips, showing some of the muscles (red) of the buttocks. These are shown attached to the femurs (thigh bones) and the pelvis bones. At centre left is the gluteus minimus, the smallest of the three gluteal muscles. It is covered by the two larger gluteal muscles, the gluteus maximus and gluteus medius. These two larger muscles have been removed at left, but are shown on the right hip (centre right). The lower part of the spine, ending in the sacrum and coccyx, is between the two hips. Some of the lower ribs are at top.
