Description
Moth proboscis. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of the tip of a coiled proboscis of a moth (order Lepidoptera). The proboscis is an elongated hollow tube (yellow), used to suck up nectar and other liquids. The tip has sensilla (blue), insect sensory organs. These sensilla let the moth taste its food.
