Description
1957 Chevrolet Bel Air
Classic & classy!
The Chevy Bel Air was Chevys answer to the Ford Fairlane. It has become one of the most recognizable American cars worldwide. Quite an accomplishment for a car that was outsold by a Ford the year it was introduced. The Chevy Bel Air has become synonymous with the late 1950s/early 1960s and teens of the era. Leather jackets, poodle skirts, big hair and bigger fins and chrome!
The 1957 Chevy Bel Air WAS the American Dream, worldwide. It was once advertised by Chevrolet as sweet, smooth and sassy. The Bel Air name came from previous years of deluxe models of Chevys hardtop cars being nicknamed Bel Air. The name stuck with Chevy and they designed a car for the name. The 57 Bel Air was designed in 1954 to be released in 1955. The 1957 Chevy was to be a new design, but that didnt happen due to production delays. Instead it was revamped. An additional 2 inches were added to the tail fins length. The wheels were decreased to 14 inches. The most attractive addition was the huge bumper grill. The car featured a model, the most famous, with the first mass-produced V-8 engine that provided 1 horsepower/cubic inch. Speed & looks! Chevy took advantage of this in their ads with the line Chevy puts the purr back in performance, as the dual exhausts emitted a sound many likened to that of a purring cat.
It has remained a favorite among collectors and car enthusiasts. Only 47,566 Bel Airs were ever produced making them collectible icons. They are considered gold in the collectible car market. The starting price: $1095.
The 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air is considered one of the most collectible cars.
