A Morning At Cafe Du Monde
Painting - Acrylic On Gesso Board
Early in the morning is my favorite time in the Quarter, as the sun is just rising over the west bank of the Mississippi River. (I know, the sun doesn't rise in the west; however, this is New Orleans and the sun most assuredly rises over the West Bank of the city, right across the Mississippi. Just check it on a map.) The Original Café Du Monde was established in 1862 in the New Orleans French Market. Open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, it's one of the most visited spots in New Orleans. The dark roasted coffee with chicory, served either black or au lait (mixed half and half with hot milk), goes down quite well with the hot beignets covered with powdered sugar. With the sun rising from the west, the calliope on the river beginning its morning tunes, the street musicians sharing their sounds, and hot coffee and beignets, it's hard to beat this beginning of your day!
