Description
A Pro-slavery mob burning down the building housing the newspaper of abolitionist Elijah Parish Lovejoy (1802- 1837) on November 7, 1837. During the violent riot, all parties were armed and shooting, and Lovejoy was shot five times, becoming the first white abolitionist martyr.
