Description
Granite was one of the larger towns in Montana in the later part of the 19th Century and the reason for its being was silver mining. In the 1890's, the price of silver dropped substantially and the town of more than 3,000 inhabitants became abandoned almost overnight. In its heyday, the town boasted a large Miners Union Hall, a library, 18 saloons, brothels, a hospital, a school, and some churches. Now only a few structures remain.
