April 29, 2010 - A U.S. Air Force C-130 Hercules aircraft, equipped with a Modular Airborne Firefighting System, releases its payload of water during training over South Carolina. The system, better known as MAFFS, is a portable fire retardant system that can be installed on C-130 Hercules aircraft to convert the airplanes into air tankers used in battling wildfires. C-130's equipped with the MAFFS are currently being used to spray oil dispersant on the Deepwater Horizon oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.
