After The Rain
Painting - Watercolor
This was a commission piece that was to be done in the G. Harvey style of painting. The buyer is from the Madison, WI area, therefore it was appropriate to have the Wisconsin Capitol building in the background. Perhaps this took place on the corner of State Street, many years ago! The rain has now subsided, so the shoppers are coming out with their umbrellas to wander in and out of the various shops along the street. Fresh flowers are for sale in pots in front of the shop in the foreground that has such a glowing front window to lure the people in to their store. This was during the era when horses and carriages were readily available for transportation around the square in Madison. On the left hand side of the painting, a couple is conversing with the driver of a carriage, perhaps to inquire about a destination on their list. I can picture some of the children splashing through the puddles left in the street from the recent rain.
