Thank you, everyone! Yes, Spencer, I think this is the same plant family. Once the center shoot blooms, the plant dies.

Great job, I have on e of these plants in my front yard, it's huge. I call it a century plant. Approximately 10 feet tall and the same in diameter. It has not had the center chute come out yet but the base is covered with small plants, babies. Isn't this the plant where tequila comes from? Have a great day.
