Alcatraz Reality - The Painful Landscape Of Freedom
A view of San Francisco and freedom from a 14 inch by 8 inch security window at Alcatraz. This window is in the southwest corner of the main cell house near Cell Block C in a common area that every inmate had access to and likely peered out of at one time or another during their incarceration.
I can imagine an inmate's thoughts as they looked out upon freedom and wondered if they would ever experience it again.
This must have been a defining exerience for many. As Richard Nixon once said: ... only if you have been in the deepest valley can you ever know how magnificent it is to be on the highest mountain ....
