Along The Big Thompson
Painting - Acrylic On Canvas
Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado has spectacular scenery that includes this mighty Big Thompson River. It flows through the town of Estes Park and onward to the eastern part of the state. During the spring snow melt, it can pose major and often disastrous flooding issues for downstream residents. This particular scene of the Big Thompson River is during a less turbulent timeframe when it calmly meanders through tall weedy grasses that densely grow in typical swampy and lower wet land areas. Colorado is known for its beautiful blue skies. I was drawn to the deep blue of the sky, reflections in the river that included red, beetle-killed trees and the contrasting golden reed grass growing alongside the gently flowing river.
