'Am I not a man and a brother'? The seal of the Society for the Abolition of Slavery in England in the 1780s, later used as the emblem of the American Abolitionist movement. This woodcut accompanied John Greenleaf Whittier's anti slavery poem, 'Our Countrymen in Chains' of 1837.
