Amelia Earhart should have believed her navigator, but like in Africa she turned the wrong way. She was not ready for this trip. Paul Mantz had warned her. He had also taught her to fly. One can only imagine the frantic notes the navigator was passing on a fishing pole over the huge fuel tank that seperated them.. He was amoung the very best in the world and without a doubt knew right where they were. He had laid out the routes in the Pacific for Pan AM and carefully plotted the route. before departure and this was not the first time she had ignored his directions and was lost, but this time they were over the Pacific and after the wrong turn was to far away and to low on fuel to correct. Noonan must have known they were doomed. This was not 1927 like Lindberg but 1937 and much progress in navigation had been made in those intervening ten years.
