Description
I arose one morning on Amelia Island yearning to go out and paint. I had spent the night in a hotel near the port. I grabbed my painting supplies and canvas and stepped out into the cool moist morning air. I gingerly stepped across the railroad tracks and found an outdoor seat at a restaurant. It hadn't opened yet, so I was all alone. I liked the peace and quiet. After setting up my little easel, I squeezed out my paints on a paper palette resting atop one of the tables. The sun was just rising as I began to paint. As the sun rose higher into the sky, the light changed and a few of the boats moved. Smoke rose from the smoke stacks of the nearby mill in the background. I think that is what it was. The various boats were of different shapes and sizes. I was completely tuned into my painting.
It wasn't until I heard a voice behind me comment about my appearance. A woman was comparing me favorably to a famous woman in the news. I was chagrinned and embarrassed that I hadn't noticed that the restaurant had filled with people. Many of them had been watching me for quite some time! A waitress came over and gave me free coffee and breakfast. She said that the management was happy to have me stay there to paint. I was, apparently, entertaining the patrons! I continued to paint a bit more until it grew a bit cool for me.
This is an acrylic painting on an 11 by 14 inch stretched canvas.
