Pastel - Giclee Of Original Pastel Work
This is a print version of an original pastel I did that was inspired by the gorgeous Vogue model Penelope Tree from her work in the 1960s. She could drape her thin frame over any piece of furniture and look absolutely elegant. I preserved the original pastel on film, then scanned the negative, vignetted it a bit more in Photoshop and have created a portrait that is quite striking and will work beautifully in heavy, ornate, Baroque frames and oval mattes.
My technique in the original pastel work was not the usual coarse pastel texturing. I did a lot of blending with my fingers to create a very smooth complexion and well-behaved hair. Smaller details such as lips and eyelashes were created with conte crayons. The print displays these details well and I feel it is an excellent reproduction that captures the mood of my original piece.
