Kate, This is truly a wonderful painting! The expression on her face speaks volumes!

Beautiful painting. I like the way the colors reflect off of each other and take us around the painting from figure to wall to mirror and back again. An odd place for this particular woman to be sitting (in front of a mirror). I wonder why? Which tells me you "pulled it off!" Great job -- congratulations!

Hi all! Thank you for your great comments. Actually the Indian woman is sitting outside her doorway as many women do in the villages in India. I can totally see why you thought it was a mirror (the wax resist gives it a mirror-like sheen). However, it IS more mirror-like than door-like, which makes me think that there was something else coming out in my work that I was unconscious of. I was aware though, that I had painted the shadow of a man in the doorway (I've always had ghosts in my paintings). I think that the Indian lady may have been thinking of days past, and this ultimately comes out in the painting. I find that watercolour is a very ethereal medium to work with. I love it!
