An African American Was Attacked
Photograph - Photograph
An African American was attacked by a mob of 400 and then hung from a tree and set alight on Clark Street during the New York City Draft Riots of July 1863. The Riots were the worst civilian violence of the Civil War, much of it aimed at Free Blacks by Irish Gangs.
