Description
Puente de Montanana or El Pont de Montanyada is a municipality located in the province of Huesca, Aragon, Spain. According to the 2004 census (INE), the municipality has a population of 102 inhabitants.
The village is a perfect example of the medieval in Aragon. Due to depopulation and its isolated location, Montaana is now a fossil village.
Its cobbled streets, arches, bridge, capitals, doorways and the apses of its churches are wonderful examples of Aragonese life and art in medieval Aragon.
The village has a defence system dating from the end of the XV century and the beginning of the XVI, consisting of a prison tower, town gateway and town wall. All of this has been restored as have roads, streets and walls which have been restored to their original shapes using the same materials and techniques as were used in medieval times.
There are beautiful Romanesque buildings in the village, such as the Nuestra Senora de Baldos church, with a Gothic tower and spectacularly ornamented doorway.
