Anatoly A. Blagonravov (right, 1895-1975), Soviet engineer, showing a colleague a spacecraft model. Blagonravov is making a report at a congress of the American Rocket Society, in the USA, in 1959. This was a few years after the Soviets had launched Sputnik, the world's first satellite. Blagonravov also worked on the United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (COPUOS), and promoted international co-operation between the USA and the USSR on space projects during the Cold War.
