Anchored At Sunset
Painting - Oil On Canvas
Artist's Narration of this Painting:
"Anchored At Sunset" was completed on January 1, 2012 and is my first painting of the
new year 2012.
This tropical scene is a deep sunset with a nice live-aboard sailboat anchored for the night in smooth, safe waters on the south Gulf coast of
The clouds are many and varied, each absorbing the setting sun's colors. As for the actual sky, I started with a very deep red at the horizon,
giving way to sun's brightness which is still illuminating some of the clouds with bright yellow tinges mixed with white.
Notice the sailing yacht anchored at right - even the sails are wrapped and tucked in for the night. Notice too that the running lights are turned off and only
the mast-anchor light is on. Light from the interior can be seen through the port windows. The boat is a good reflections maker too.
If we turn our attention to the distant left, we can see the beginning of the shore line along with its foliage . I have selected to display quite a few
coconut palms and they appear larger as they get closer to us. The glowing light from the sunset is dancing here and there on our foliage and
on the palms.
The sandy beach has evidence of seaweed which has been previously washed up and the sand is also receiving some of those rich sunset colors.
Even though birds are few at this time of late afternoon, let's not forget the curious seagull in the center. It seems to wonder what that large thing
floating near the shore is. It flies, half hovering, upwards, maybe to leave the area for the night !
I hope that you enjoy this unique painting as much as I did painting it ! Thank you for looking ! You can purchase this original for a very reasonable
price and in addition, you can buy genuine Giclee prints of it - even on canvas.
