Andromeda Galaxy (M31), ultraviolet image. Andromeda, the nearest large galaxy to our own, is around 140,000 light years across, and located 2.5 million light years away in the constellation of the same name. This mosaic of the Andromeda Galaxy merges 330 individual images taken by NASA's Swift spacecraft's Ultraviolet/Optical Telescope (UVOT). The image shows a region 200,000 light-years wide and 100,000 light-years high. Image published in 2009.
