Angel Island State Park California - Nike Missile Base - Defending The City
Photograph - Photograph
Part of the cold war NATO air defense system, the Nike Missile Site was pretty much obsolete by the time the installation was active. The hatches, vents, and silo doors are all that remain today in the south side of Angel Island. California State Parks oversees the USIS United States Immigration Station, Camp Reynolds, Ayala Cove, China Cove, Officer Quarters, Nike Missile Base, East Garrison, Fort McDowell, Point Blunt and the Thousand Man Barracks. The USIS is also known as the Ellis Island of the West.
