Painting - Oil And Emulsion Paint On Board
Description
All three of these paintings were created with oil paint applied onto board, then emulsion paint over the top - an exploration of basic feelings about colour, composition, textures and shapes.
The discomfort comes, I think, from the contrast between the smooth liquid white shapes of the emulsion and the gritty background texture.
A 3D model version of this painting can be seen here...

Paul Davenport replied:
quite a sloooooow process! had to wait for the oil paint to start drying before applying it... and it had to be oil, just in case the emulsion dribbles went wrong (oops!) I felt it was worth the effort when I converted them to 3D models though... that result was rather unexpected and rather magical :-)

Paul, Angst is something dark and you Show it clearly in your interesting Abstract work, LF - Dagmar
Paul Davenport replied:
Was grasping for a tension between the background and the liquid lines… didn't really work until my grey paint started drying and got a scratchy feel to it!
David Neace
Really like these abstracts Paul, the white adds depth for me!!!!!
Paul Davenport replied:
Glad you like them - I hadn't done pure abstracts for a while… just feeling along, felt it definitely needed something to contrast the grey and brown and still be muted. Used emulsion so it would just wash off if I dribbled in the wrong place!
