World War II was fought and won while I was a child. In 1955, I painted this picture of the German soldier falling from a gunshot wound – fatal or not is not the real issue. The painting was lost, I thought, until around 2004, when it was found amongst some other stuff my mom had saved for me. Now more rational in my thinking, I looked at it from a new perspective. Somewhere out there was a mother whom had had a son who was fighting in a war he didn't create and unfortunately on this night, he was on the losing side .......... before long this mother would be weeping for her son, who might or might not be coming home to her! And thus ,the name of the painting.
